Best Coast - Sun Was High (So Was I)

I don't know anything about this band and I couldn't be bothered to Google them. So lets just make something up shall we? Best Coast took their name from a misheard conversation when lead singer Ranulph Van Zorn was eating a bowl of Cheerios and remarked to lead guitarist Ty Stretch that he was wearing the 'best coat'. The misnomer also inspired their jangly pop-psychedelia sound and blissed-out west coast riffage. This is a tune that should make to sun feel guilty for not coming out to play. Come on Mr Sun, put your hat on and parade about like a jezebel.

Japandroids - Live on KEXP

Some have said that with the demise of record companies the time of the over produced album is over. But what will that mean, possibly less orchestral intros and more bands sounding like Japandroids as the DIY ethic is no longer a choice but a necessity, which is no bad thing.

Mary Margaret O'Hara - When You Know Why You're Happy

Shamed deserter Silver Medalist returns to the front after an inordinate time AWOL, but he comes bearing a wonderful gift - the delirious, dolorous, hypnotic voice of Mary Margaret O'Hara. It's 21 years since her one and only record, the nocturnal, noirish country soul of Miss America, but the indisyncratic songbird remains unique, still singing like a through-the-looking-glass siren, with that alluring, trancendental, bewildering vocal cadence. On this majestic video clip, she looks like Juno, and her band resemble extras from Jake and the Fatman, which makes it all even better
