DetritusTV has had the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, Its Blitz, on repeat the last few days. Zero and Heads Will Roll offer a propulsive synthy opening to the record and that thankfully continues right through, the track Runaway is amazing.
Some have said that DetritusTV should shy away from any group that appears on Jools Holland and should defo not play a clip from his show but the YYY's have made it hard to post vids so Jools is our only option.
So imagine the most bombastic introduction that Jools would give:
"Seasick Steve folks - What about that!! What about that!! And now all the way from Yeah Land here's the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!!!"

Irma Thomas - It's Raining
Not enough soul music you declared
Not enough Tom Waits you exclaimed
And not enough dancing, there's been no dancing!!!
Well today DetritusTV shall remedy all these complaints in one fell swoop with what is not strictly a music video but could been seen as such. Its from Jim Jarmusch's excellent movie Down by Law and features Tom Waits at the table, Irma Thomas on the jukebox and dancing, of a sort.

The Black Dog - Further Vexations
Its been quite a while since DetritusTV has looked forward to an album release so much but the new The Black Dog record has finally arrived. Its inspired by the fears of an encroaching surveillance society and the resulting loss of personal liberty. This sinister theme is a continuation from the last album Radio Scarecrow and although only a year since this release the new record has a distinct and individual sound.
See attached short movie made to promote album, which is quality.

Parts & Labor - The Gold We're Digging
For a certain generation Ray Harryhausen's stop motion skeletons will always remain infinitely scarier than any of today's CGI creations. It was just the unnatural way they moved. Stop motion features in today's vid by Parts and Labour but fortunately there are no giant crabs.

The Horrors - Sea Within A Sea
If someone had suggested in 2006 that The Horrors would one day make a good record they would have been swiftly derided and quickly directed to the fact that said group are nothing more than professional event openers whose hipster haircuts guarantee a few photos.
But Geoff Barrow of Portishead produced the latest record and the results are really interesting. Listen to new single Sea within a Sea which DetritusTV can only describe as a psyched Philip Glass motorik fusion.

Glass Candy - Digital Versicolor
For reasons we won't elaborate on DetritusTV ended up buying the Glass Candy record Beatbox twice in the space of one week in two different countries. Its quality electroy/italo pop but this is the track that brought them to DetritusTV's attention. It featured in the closing credits of the film of the year so far - Bronson.
We also had the chance to see A Camp live last night. They decorated the venue's bland stage in an Ibsen parlour style and we can report that their wistful Scandinavian sound was well received and a good time was had by all.

The Joy Formidable - Austere
DetritusTV ventured to the Camden Queue, sorry Crawl this weekend. It showcases lots of new bands and artists but DetritusTV ended up just seeing The Fall, which was great. We did see one other act and that was The Joy Formidable that played before Mark E and Co. They were quite somethin'

The Replacements - Customer/Rattlesnake
An unexpected theme has emerged this week and its early 80's late 70's hardcore and here's the next installment. It must be said The Replacements had well behaved fans unlike certain others. Vid attached is a two song medley from 1981 and is known as Customer/Rattlesnake.

The Adverts - One Chord Wonders
Another rowdy crowd disturbs today's vid but The Adverts cope admirably in the face of some bawdy language and aggressive looks from the assembled onlookers.
You know there may be trouble when a band warn "don't injure us" but all is ok and One Chord Wonder is played to an appreciative audience, Phew.

Bad Brains - Big Takeover Live at CBGB's 1982
McClow has cold and McClow is now typing at computer and drinking lemonsip - sorry wrong social network app, am now in the refined and purposeful environs of a blog. As the late D F Wallace once bemoaned about John Updike "Has the son of a bitch ever had one unpublished thought?" it seems that such could now be leveled at the twittering masses.
But lo it is indeed good to share and to share such things as Bad Brains vids. Check this vid from CBGB's in 1982 which has a crowd as frenetic as the band.

and to show that the manic crowd above wasn't a once of check this vid of same song -

Paul McCartney - Waterfalls
DetritusTV's last post was just before St Patrick's day so you can understand the delay, it took a week or so for the alcohol to drain from our system. But we're now cogent and focused on the task of music video provision.
Paul McCartney joins us today with a quite spectacular vid that also contains some sound words of advice such as "don't go chasing polar bears" - wise words -

John Cooper Clarke - Chickentown
Ok its not a music video but we set the bloody rules here and think punk poet John Cooper Clark can stand his ground against those that demand orchestration with words.
The bloody Drums and guitars
and bloody decks and triangles,
and bloody 808's and 303's,
and ableton, who bloody needs them.

Robert Wyatt & Bertrand Burgalat -This summer night
Robert Wyatt has become a bit of a regular on DetritusTV which is no harm. He has a new track with Bertrand Burgalat and its a quality slice of Gallic infused drama pop.

Nite Jewel - Artificial Intelligence
Nite Jewel has created a much needed new genre - dopey disco. Her languid, ethereal voice and morphine drip production lull you into a becalmed, balmy, nocturnal (dis)coma. She has even been deigned worthy enough to release some tracks on the Italians Do It Better label, that hothouse of all things italowankycool. Her album Good Evening is a soft-centred, beguiling charmer and she is going to be a lot less popular than Lady GaGa, but way better, playing cinderella to the laters Ugly Sister.

Harmonic 313 - Falling Away
DetritusTV has been listening to one of the first great records of 2009 and its by Harmonic 313 on Warp Records.
It has the unwieldy title of - When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence, and when they do maybe they'll make a vid for this track but until then its a static vision of the album cover in all its BBC keyboard and monochrome glory.

Titus Andronicus - Titus Andronicus
Titus Andronicus appear and waltz onto the stage like a whirlygig version of early Idlewild. Its looks like education wasn't wasted on the Titus as not only do they use a latin title for their band they have a song called Albert Camus which is a frenzied rock operatic version of The Plague.

M Ward - Hold Time
You'd think that DetritusTV could come up with a suitable themed week after its time in exile, but no. We considered maybe top 5 music videos featuring an inappropriate sitar accompaniment (not a bad idea). Anyhows as its not a week of tenuously grouped vids we can play some of our recent favourites so here's M Ward.

Global Goon - Dead Weird Keks
Today DetritusTV plans to rectify our lack of Global Goon vids until this point. It features numerous colours, a busy hand that likes rolling down steps, playin' guitar, dancing and just generally having a pretty good time.

The Notwist - Where In This World
DetritusTV viewers will be glad to hear that we have secured passage from the beach. We saw a ship on the horizon and after swimming out to it we were taken on board. We are unsure of the destination as the crew don't seem to understand us and have never heard of our homeland.
They still use old radio transmitters and while spinning the dial we tuned into this track by The Notwist.
